US Citizens See Israel Apartments as Shelters from Worldwide Disasters

US Citizens See Israel Apartments as Shelters from Worldwide Disasters

Over the last few months, there has been a strong increase in the number of United States citizens who are buying real estate in Israel. However, the situation is definitely more complex than just this. Seeing this sudden surge in the number of sold apartments along with the increased interest that foreign citizens are showing, one might wonder what could be the cause of that. What triggered US, Canadian, Australian, and English citizens to start buying apartments in Israel, especially in the cities of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem? The answer lies in the uncertainty of the current geopolitical situation, the one in the United States especially.

We could certainly say that the real estate market is at a boiling point right now because of what is going on in the United States. Between the newly-elected President Joe Biden and the dying anti-Semitism, most American citizens no longer feel safe in their own country. This triggers unexpected actions from those who have the financial possibility to buy homes overseas.

What’s even more interesting is the fact that some American people are buying apartments in Israel without even coming to the country to live in said apartments. The only time they visit it is when they are making the transaction. Once everything is solved, they go back to their countries and wait for the right moment to flee to their newly-acquired shelter.

Most foreigners who are religious are buying apartments in the city of Jerusalem while the others prefer the modern and youthful vibes of Tel Aviv. The latter is the perfect place for those who are just now coming out of their traditional ways of life and want to explore freedom in all of its shapes and forms. Besides this, it’s important to mention that a lot of the families who are buying apartments in Israel are very Zionist. This means that, in a way, having a shelter to retreat to when times are rough also means having the opportunity to live in a land of milk and honey, especially if we are to talk about identity and safety.

US citizens even go as far as to buy apartments that are still under construction and will probably be ready within two to three years. This is a clear indication that they are willing to do everything they can to obtain the shelter that will be their home when things go south in the rest of the world or just to have a nice place in Israel to spend time with their families. By this, we mean the possibility of another pandemic that could hit the world or only certain parts of it, a natural disaster, or even a large-scale war.

In the end, it’s also worth mentioning the fact that Israel has become overwhelmed by the high demand for real estate. At the moment, there are simply not enough apartments for everyone who wishes to buy one. It remains to be seen whether or not this trend will remain the same or if it will start diminishing as the year goes by.
